AVC River Sojourn
August 7, 2026
Get ready for an unforgettable day on the water at the AVC Allegheny River Sojourn! This guided paddling adventure invites participants to experience the beauty of the Allegheny River up close, from scenic river views and the chance to spot wildlife like eagles to the welcoming riverfront charm of Franklin. This one-day event combines outdoor fun, exploration, and hands-on environmental learning for a memorable summer experience.
Registration is just $25 online through the AVC website. Bring your own boat, or rent one from OARS. Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Outdoor Allegheny River Services (OARS) at 250 Elk St, Franklin, PA 16323 for check-in, with an on-water launch at 10:00 a.m. From there, paddlers will head downriver to Fisherman’s Cove, where the outfitter will provide transportation back to Franklin.
The fun doesn’t stop when the paddling ends. After the float, participants are invited to relax and connect over food, non-alcoholic beverages, and conversation. Throughout the sojourn and gathering, AVC environmental experts will share insights into the ecological importance of the Allegheny River, its conservation needs, and the remarkable AVC properties and conservation easements along the route—making this event as meaningful as it is enjoyable.
Participant safety remains a top priority for the AVC Allegheny River Sojourn. All paddlers must wear properly fitted personal flotation devices (PFDs) in accordance with launch requirements. Participants bringing their own boats must also have current registration stickers and appropriate flotation equipment.
If unsafe weather conditions or high-water levels are reported by the closest USGS river gauge, the sojourn will be postponed to a designated rain date. Participants will be notified electronically in advance.
Spots are limited, so don’t wait to reserve yours. Sign up today through the AVC website and join us for a one-of-a-kind day of paddling, discovery, and connection on the Allegheny River!

2023 Spring Newsletter
We are entering a new season. Winter has turned to spring, migration is happening, the usual changes that come as the world keeps spinning. The Allegheny Valley Conservancy is also entering a new season. 2022 brought unexpected changes to the Board of Directors with the death of a long-time member and the marriage of another. But, our Board is also growing with new members bringing new perspectives.
